Sims, Rena
Education has played a major role in my entire life. I am the child of teachers and grew up to follow in my parents footsteps. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood (with a dual certification in Elementary Education) in 1991 from Jacksonville State University, and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education form the University of Alabama in 2006. Gaston School was my home for most of my teaching career, but then the school was split in 2018 and I am now a proud teacher at Gaston Elementary School.

On a personal note, my husband (Matt) and I have been married since 1987 and have 3 beautiful daughters. All of which are Gaston Alumni, and JSU Alumni. Alexandria is the Director of the Hokes Bluff Public Library, Amy is a 5th grade teacher at St. James Catholic School, and Ashlie is a RN at Children's of Alabama. We are very proud of our daughters and consider ourselves blessed with the foundation in education they received at Gaston.

Out of all the grades, Kindergarten is my favorite. I love seeing their eyes light up when they understand a new thing, or when they realize that they can do it all be themselves! I am looking forward to ending my career with thousands of happy memories with my students.
