Welcome To My Second Grade Classroom!

I am so excited to begin the school year with your child!   I want to begin by introducing myself.  I live on a farm in Centre with my husband Jon, and our two boys ,Taylor and Joseph.  Taylor is 17 and Joseph is 10. We have a lot of excitement on the farm with cows, horses, honey bees, cats, and dogs!  Needless to say, there is never a dull moment at our house! I am sure the children will hear about our many adventures on the farm throughout the school year.  :)
I received my bachelor's degree from Jacksonville State University and my master's degree from the University of Alabama. I am also  a reading specialist with certification from UAB and meet the state requirements to be Highly Qualified.
As a parent myself, I realize the importance of parent/teacher communication.  When a parent and teacher communicate regularly about a child, the child has a happier and more successful school year!  You will receive a weekly conduct report and test packet beginning the second week of school. The report will let you know how your child is progressing academically and how he/she is behaving in class.  There will also be room at the bottom for parent and teacher comments. I believe that working as partners with each other, supporting each other, and communicating weekly will give your child the best learning experience in third grade!
I am a firm believer in parent involvement and want your participation in our classroom!  If you have special talents or work in the community and would like to come and share with our class, please do not hesitate to call  me or write me a note.  I love bringing in new experiences to  my classroom!   For example, in the past, we have hatched chickens in an incubator, with the help of a parent who raises chickens. We have also studied China  and communicated with relatives living in China via live video chat! The children loved learning  phrases in Chinese!
I am also looking for parent volunteers to come and read with small groups or help with stapling packets, copying, etc.  Please e-mail or send me a note if you would like to volunteer.
Third grade is a big transition year with a lot of added responsibilities and obligations.  If your child always does his/her best, keeps up with homework, and follows the rules, they will be a success!
